Date: 14 Jul - 12 Aug 2012

The Reconstruction of the Peach Garden
The Contemporary Significance of Wang Shuping’s Oil Painting

                                                               Peng Feng

Throughout imaginary depiction of a female G20 Summit, Wang Shuping’s paintings touched the nerve of this contemporary society. It made a thought provoking issue come above-board which has been born and growing to be mature since women's Consciousness Awakening.

The globalization of world political economy are especially demonstrated in emerging G20 Summit. With female’s sensitivity, Wang Shuping expresses her understanding after a careful observation on women's role in this patriarchal political world, representing by creating a female G20 Summit. She smelt and then created that the patriarchal globalized political world is  going to evolve into matriarchal. It is, somehow, an alternatively powerful way of expression of feminism under the present social context.

What kind of world has Wang Shuping created for us? Is it a world which feminized the power or a world empowering the women? some one believe that Wang's artwork is a defense or declaration of man's power is going to be  captured. However, after a careful scrutinization, Wang Shuping’s work is actually a vivid representation of women's subtle personal emotions under their aggressive and powerful appareace.

Thus, In contrast with those radical feminist artists who externalize feminism, Wang Shuping’s expression is closer to woman's real inner world. that is a kind of objective representation of women when they are returning to their original peacefel backstage after a desperately fierce fight outside in the political world. It's a heart-felt dipiction of a real woman who is not just an"iron lady" as you can  see.
