Back from the artistic-heritage of the British/American artist John S. Sargent, the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts (HKAFA) was founded by internationally acclaimed artist CHAN Hoi-ying. The HKAFA was the first to be acknowledged by the Hong Kong Education Department. Its mission is to provide valuable Asian Cultural Education and Experience as well as motivate students to contribute Artistic Culture to society and gain professional training in art. The HKAFA students are given the solid foundation upon which to develop their individual creativity, artistic style and technique, enabling them to become professional artists, art educators, designers / illustrators, directors of art societies and associations.
The HKAFA bases its curriculum on a strong foundation in the development of accurate drawing skills. Subjects range from Fine Arts to Design related fields. There are flexible ongoing enrollment for all levels of experience and serious part time students. The HKAFA also offers tailor made in-company art courses as well as weekday, evening, weekend courses in English and Chinese for children and teenagers. The HKAFA is involved in a number of international exchange programs, symposia, travel programs on special topics and international exhibitions. The HKAFA welcome international students from abroad.
