Art Collectors’ Delight: Individual Collections at Yokohama Museum of Art
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 6 Jul - 16 Sep 2013

Among collections at Yokohama Museum of Art, quite a number of individual collectors' collections are included. In the first collection exhibition in 2013, Kuniaki Ueda and Mr. and Mrs. Katsuko's collections will be introduced, and the second exhibition will consist of art works from 7 collectors.

A chance to start collecting or interests of each collector is very diverse. Sakata Takeo (1888-1984), the founder of Yokohama based company, Sakatanotane, was fascinated by collecting Western modern art works. 52 works of collection were donated to Yokohama Museum of Art before opening in 1983. Kimura Kihachi (1934-), the printer, has worked with many artists and printmakers for experimental printings. In terms of achievement of cooperation with the artists, 200 art works of 6 wrists and printmakers and  printer's proofs left in his hand were donated in 1988.

In this exhibition, to commemorate 40th anniversary of Jirō Osaragi's death, prints of French artist, Paul Renouard collected by Osaragi will be on display through a partnership with Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum.
In addition, at the photo exhibition hall, pop art works will be exhibited focusing 'Campbell soup II' by Andy Warhol. With this, Peter Coffin's film work, which has been submitted for Yokohama Triennale in 2011, will be introduced as well.
