Sambi Shousha : UEDA Collection
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 13 Apr - 16 Jun 2013

Yokohama Museum of Art has focused on art works donated by many collectors. For the first exhibition of the collection, Ueda Kuniaki and Katko, a couple who has donated 171 art works since 2010, introduce the art collection.

Sambi Shousha, named to his house by Ueda, reflects on Okakura Kakuzo or Makoto Fujimura's statement 'Based on Japanese culture, there is a heart of praise.' He was interested in antique art but since 1978, he started collecting modern / contemporary art, including art works from keizaburo Okamura and Makoto Fujimura, and Tomoaki Ishihara's work exhibited at Venice Biennale, and he now has over 360 art works. As main purpose of 'Sambi Shousha' activity, he said 'Each citizen can support art and culture with government, art museum, and other people for next generation, so that 'art democracy' can be realized'. And with this, Ueda doesn't sell his collection, but has donated to the public museums. Yokohama museum of art has 175 works and this exhibition introduces various artists' works.

Also, as the special exhibition at photo exhibition space, '100 Beautiful Women in Yokohama' by Nobuyoshi Araki. As the representative Japanese photographer, Araki shows his portrait photos.
