1918 ArtSPACE is pleased to present “Blackfield”, a solo exhibition of a London based Israeli artist, Zadok BEN-DAVID, whose wondrous dreamlike installation and sculptural works of human, animal and plant in silhouette forms, finely wrought of photo etched stainless steel and painted in mostly black and various colors. They embrace the full circle of life, exploring themes of life and death. Like a skilled magician, Zadok’s works are full of surprises and wonder through the manipulation of the size and scale. Depending on where you stand, one experiences the metamorphosis not just in the state of things but also in the state of mind.
Zadok BEN-DAVID studied at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and St. Martin School of Art in London. He represented Israel in the 1988 Venice Biennale, and won numerous awards, among them the Grande Biennial Prémio of Cerveira in Portugal in 2007 and the Tel Aviv Museum prize for sculpture in 2005. He had shown at Singapore Biennial 2008, Guangdong Art Museum in 2007, after which he was commissioned to create a sculpture for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
