1918 ArtSPACE was first established in Shanghai in 2004 in an old house on Xiangshan Road, close to Fuxing park. A year later, the gallery moved to a 650 sqm warehouse space at No.78 Changping road. In 2009, to be part of the Shanghai art community, 1918 ArtSPACE finally settled down at No. 20 Moganshan Road, part of the M50 art district, occupying a compact, authentic old workshop building.

The vision of 1918 ArtSPACE is to provide a transfer platform for the Chinese-international art dialogue fostering the discovery and exploration of new dimensions in contemporary art and culture. Therefore 1918 ArtSPACE co-operates with foreign and China-based emerging and established artists .

Dedicated to all types of contemporary art (paintings, sculptures, photography, video, installation and multimedia) our small but thoroughly selected exhibitions state a direct contrast to the common flood of art, providing the viewer with only the highlights of contemporary art rather than overwhelming with mere mass – following the common mantra: "Quality over Quantity".

1918 ArtSPACE curates 6 different exhibitions each year, and also maintains interesting dialogues on contemporary art issues with the art world and also advises many art enthusiasts on contemporary art collections.
