色視 in the exhibition title 色視怒放 is read in Korea as saek-si like the English work sexy, and literally means “looking at colors.” Here, the two characters represent modernity, which can be the loneliness, sadness and lightness of being of the modern man rooting from materialism and sensualism, or the pursuit for a new ideal as a solution to such ailments.

怒放 stands for the diversity and originality of modernity. The diversity is expressed based on each artist’s individuality and methods and materials he or she adopts.

The pain and desires of urban East Asians amid hi-speed growth have been expressed via various methods under two subthemes “Lightness of Being” and “Dream of the Idea.” We hope viewers experience catharsis from having their scars from modernity healed through this exhibition.
