“DRAGON IN THE FIELDS” is inspired by the Great Book of Changes the I-Ching (or Yi-King).
It sums up perfectly the spirit of this exhibition which focuses on a selection of the most representative black & white works of Hu Wugong, master documentary photographer of Shaanxi. Almost a mini retrospective of his 40-Year career. His rarely seen color landscape photography has never been exhibited some even never been published before.
This landscape work is at the heart of Hu Wugong’s humanistic concern for the rural life and tradition in the central plain of Shaanxi, this “yellow earth of the Loess”, that is in-dissociable from the thousands of years old history of kings and emperors who have chosen to be buried there precisely for its Fengshui quality.
