Monthly exhibition of international and chinese photographers, portfolio and limited prints for collectors.

Beaugeste Photo Gallery in Shanghai opened since 2007 is specialized in Chinese contemporary photography for art lovers and collectors of photography; located in Tianzifang the art street of Taikang Road. We received the award for GALLERIST OF THE YEAR 2010 by the best selling photo magazine in China “PHOTOGRAPHERS’ COMPANION” in their 2011 March issue.

The every-2-month exhibition cycle, organized by curator Jean Loh, presents themed works by Chinese photographers such as: An Ge, Hu Wugong, Lu Guang, Lu Yuanmin, Jiang Jian, Wang Fuchun, Wang Gang, Wu Jialin, Yan Changjiang, Xu Peiwu, Xiao Quan, Zhou Ming, Zeng Yicheng, Li Zhixiong and Hu Li etc. Original works on China by world photographers such as: Marc Riboud, Anders Petersen, Klavdij Sluban, Thierry Girard, Diana Lui, Catherine Cameron, Alain Buu, Eric Mannaerts, Tatjana Loh, Solange Brand, etc. will also be featured. Most of them have spent years completing their subject producing a body of works, 90% film-based, that carries a story and a concept, that’s why we consider them as “authors” rather than artists.

August Sander said: “photography is about seeing, observing and thinking”. Beaugeste gallery’s modest mission is then to display “meaningful” photography for the aficionados not only to see and to appreciate, but also to create emotion in their heart and to stimulate curiosity and pose question for the mind. That’s the reason why we invest also in bilingual or trilingual catalogue for the exhibition whenever it is possible, in association with the International Publishing House for China’s Culture, the US Asian Cultural Academy (Washington, USA) and with the Librairie de la Galerie (Paris, France).

While we also promote Chinese photographers on the international stage, BG also represents la galerie VU’ of Paris as well as TOPS the Festival of World Photojournalism. We have worked with and are actively seeking collaboration with art museums in China and photo festivals in different regions to promote VU’ and TOPS. Our curated exhibition “Marc Riboud’s Retrospective will open in Chengdu in April 2011, after Shanghai, Beijing, HK and Macao, Xi’an and Wuhan.

Our exhibited prints are for sale and collection, with or without limited edition, either in the form of fiber-based gelatin silver prints or in digigraphie, ie: inkjet print on archival fine art papers, basically on Canson and Hahnemuhle papers, sometimes even on rice paper or canvas.
