Cinderella’s Death (0) by Virginie Lerouge KNIGHT
120 x 160 cm
Acrylic on canvas

A very young maiden,
Obedient to her fate,
Awaiting her prince,
As fairytales state.

Through the pane of the window,
One could see with much sorrow,
The girl  who cleaned and washed,
Her life so tedious and hollow.

One cold and rainy evening,
She discovered her true fortune.
So, the next sunny morning,
Instead of a crown on her head,
She had a plumber in her bed.

With her story laid to rest.
She lived happily ever after.

Explanation of the Concept
Cinderella's Death is a representation of the debilitating effect of the myth of women who live in the expectation of being saved by some prince. The naivety ( or secret plan) of the young girl expecting to realise their dream by meeting the "prince charming" who will lend meaning to their life. First, is there anything such as a prince charming? And who can be blamed for this if it is not women themselves who are responsible for continuing this myth through tradition and education or simply because of their hidden fear of their own independence?
