Standing All Alone
by Chantilly Art Center
Location: Chantilly Art Center
Artist(s): LIANG Jie
Date: 1 Aug - 28 Aug 2010

"May 2008, when earthquake happened in Wenchuan, I started working on "Hollowness" series. Under such circumstance, I was immersed in a complicate mood during creation, so from my works of 2008 you can still find the influence of post-quake.

Although the series of works can not fully present the whole image of our generation, they reflect the emotion of our little world and value orientation. We, the post-80s generation, have been called "Beat Generation" and "The Generation without Responsibility." Now, the generation have gradually stepped into the society, confronted the social confusion, uncertainty, anxiety, self-doubt and hesitation, and taking the responsibility for the society, family and realizing self-worth. However, we seem too tender to shoulder such a burden, so we want to run away, and we are seeking the way to escape from the dilemma. The "Hollowness" series are to convey such a confusion of modern young people. A young girl has been chosen as the main character, and is placed in a grotesque scene, which is a natural and unrestrained atmosphere rendered by using simple light grey.

Today, I feel so happy to have my own exhibition.

This is my preface."

- Liang Jie, Contemporary Art Center of Tank Warehouse in Chongqing, May 2010
