L’eautre is a somewhat absurd—what else?—miniature replica of the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp. As though leaning into the wind, this fist-sized model stands slightly askew on a white base perforated with drainage holes and cannot fail to appeal in its new role as a cheerfully babbling indoor fountain. it is a work by the extended family collective Spamam and Friends and mirrors the various possible manifestations of autopoietic systems. The water of the one quenches the thirst of the other—and vice versa. ideas and their facets are rethought, expanded upon, radicalized or potentiated. L’eautre hovers in the exciting limbo between the original and the copy. it is the summarized expression of a collective preoccupation with art as somthing that is at once mysterious and commonplace.
