It has been 10 years since the "Young Artist Collection" project was initiated in 2003. As of 2012, 676 works by 456 artists have been collected through it. These artworks have not only enriched the NTMoFA’s collections, but are also the foundation of our study on the creative tendencies of young artists in Taiwan.
"Innovation and Re-creation: Selected Works from the Young Artist Collection" hopes to form a universal view of art in the making by young artists, combing it through and interpreting it while taking social circumstances and generational characteristics into account. By taking innovation and re-creation as essential elements in the young artists’ creative process, this exhibition also aims to draw a clearer picture of the uniqueness and significance manifested in the selected works. 69 works by respective artists are selected for this exhibition according to the following sub-themes: "A Shout through Youth: Lovable Characters and Social Critique"; "A Reflection on Self and Others: Finding a Place in Society"; "An Alternative Landscape: Space, Mind and Imagery" and "A Writing of Small Things in Art: Playing with Content and Form." Through this project, we want to delve into the artists’ true aspirations beyond innovation and re-creation as they build creative narratives of their own.
Over the last ten years, next-generation artists have sought to position themselves in society and make themselves heard, becoming acknowledged artists by taking steady steps. Their works co-exist with their predecessors’ in harmony while retaining differences. As supplements to the development of contemporary Taiwanese art, the young artist’s works are also significant because they are innovations and re-creations of art.
