After the resounding success last year, the 2012 National Art Exhibition, ROC is once again embraced with great eagerness, attracting well over 1,000 submissions of high quality from nationwide. A total of 1,198 entries were received for the 2012 National Art Exhibition, ROC and competing in 10 categories. These categories are: Chinese ink painting, calligraphy, seal-carving, oil painting, watercolor painting, gouache painting, sculpture, photography, print-making and new media arts. After two rounds of rigorous judging and selection process, 174 entries made it to the finals; a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal would be awarded for each category.
Generally speaking, this year's medalists and finalists have tended to draw inspirations from the richness of Taiwan's natural beauty, social life and cultural tradition to produce works of distinctive quality and character. These works are not only aesthetically unique, they also exemplify the nation's rich artistic diversity. The aim of the National Art Exhibition, ROC is to promote creative practices and the value of artistic diversity. We hope that this event can provide the artists with a common platform for exchange and dialogue, and in so doing to promote the overall development of fine arts in Taiwan.
