From 1968, Roger Dean started his career as a cover artist. Working with rock bands such as Yes, Osibisa and Gun, he gained the fame in worldwide. His works have dreamy and phanastemal atmosphere, which could perfectly match progressive rock music. Roger Dean leaves his mark in music history and makes a great contribution even himself is not a musician.
In his artwork, fantasy and dream can be visulized as unique motives like pine trees, floating islands, stone arches and organic habitats. Throughout these motives, Roger Dean establishes his signature world in not only illustration but also various fields.
As mentioned before, he persuades a total designer as illustrator, industrial designer, publisher and archictect at the same time. Regardless of fields, he consistently completes the fantasy world of music and human being.
- To introduce ‘cover art’ to public
: Cover art is where music and art interact and communicate. Daelim museum would introduce not only a genre of cover art but also overall background in 70s and 80s when progressive rock bands and theirs album covers had been popular in worldwide, so people could get whole ideas about design art work, music and social issues.
-To present original art works of Roger Dean, master of cover art, for the first time in Korea.
: Recently, Roger Dean’s original art works already estimates over $2,500,000 in art market. This means more and more people consider his works as something special beyond cover art. We would present Roger Dean’s unique techniques and his own imaginary world, which can inspire art enthusiasts, music fans and design students.
-To show historical legends Roger Dean and rock bands had accomplished together.
: legendary progressive rock bands, such as Gun, Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia, etc, and Roger Dean had made history in rock music field. Through this exhibition, we will provide not only Roger Dean’s original works but also real album covers, texts about bands and music together in the museum. So audience could get synaesthetic experiences.
