Festival Bo:m : Festival : Bom
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 19 Mar - 13 Apr 2014

D Project Space is pleased to present the Festival Bo:m, an international interdisciplinary arts festival, and its unusual exhibition. Since its beginning, Festival Bo:m had been focusing on introducing internationally acknowledged artworks to domestic art scene. Whereas, this year the organization aims for a festival comprised of the unique and distinctive works according to their subjectivity. This exhibition highlights the Festival Bo:m’s developed direction and renewed identity through its design archives, casual talk programs and diverse performances

The new visual design attempted by 2014 Festival Bo:m, such as web designs, printed matters, merchandises, and etc. is the representative content that precisely illustrates the newly established vision of the organization from its artistic practice to the completion of the works. The statements of 2014 - ‘individual subjectivity’, ‘a result of playing’, and ‘freely combination of pieces’ reflect how both designers from Korea and Japan, who are main designers of Festival Bo:m in 2014, freely communicate with each other to complete the design process together, and this demonstrates the festival’s perfectly redefined identity. The exhibition sheds a light on 2014 Festival Bo:m’s successful attempts and changes by revealing the playful process how the organization creates its diverse visual materials this year, in comparison with its previous design archives.

The exhibition proposes the Festival Bo:m as an independent artist through the form of exhibition, which is much more fixed and static way of presentation, rather than the temporary format of festival. Especially through related programs and open office event during the show, the festival, as an individual artist, strives to have a direct dialogue with audience by taking a step outside the temporary stage. Taking D Project Space as a firm platform, this show offers an opportunity for Festival Bo:m to experiment another possibility of communication via fun and subjective methods in lieu of delivering difficult discourses, and to reconstruct its identity as an active subject beyond a presenter of world’s leading arts.

Festival Bo:m
Festival Bo:m is a multi-genre and cultural festival of interdisciplinary arts focusing on international performing arts and visual arts established in 2007. As LEE Seunghyo, a second art director of Festival Bo:m, began to lead the festival in 2014, the organization not only focuses on globally emerging artists who create new forms and attitudes with their own artistic visions but also developing the festival on the international stage especially both in Korea and Japan concurrently this year. The Festival Bo:m successfully plays a role as a pivot of international exchange by active communication between distinguished art institutions overseas, offering an opportunity for domestic artists to present their distinctive works on the world stage.
