Daelim Contemporary Art museum is pleased to present One hundredth anniversary of the birth of Finn Juhl(912-1989), a foremost master of Scandinavian furniture, from April to September in 2012. This retrospective exhibition is Daelim Contemporary Art Museum’s first collection exhibition with Oda Noritsugu (1946- ), one of the renowned chair collectors in the world.

Finn Juhl broke with the established furniture tradition and designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design. His ‘No.45 Chair’ is well-known as the mother of modern chair history. At the Milan Triennials in the 1950s, he was awarded no fewer than five gold medals and won international acclaim for his furniture. Thereafter, he introduced ‘Danish Modern’ in U.S. as a representative person in Demark design. He was not only an excellent furniture designer, he also worked with all aspects as an architect and interior designer for his work on the Trusteeship Council Chamber at United Nations headquarters in New York.

One hundredth anniversary of the birth of Finn Juhl mainly presents chairs that boosted Finn Juhl to the international fame and industrial design products such as desks, cabinets, bowls and lightings. On the exhibition, a part of Finn Juhl’s house is represented which implied his overall design aesthetic including a film that was shot in his real house in Denmark. Moreover, displaying the diverse works of other designers and artists who are coevality with Finn Juhl, this exhibition offers a chance to experience wide range of Scandinavian design to the public.
