Grand Hyatt Seoul, located in the center of Korea’s capital city, is a resort hotel with a wonderful environment that offers peaceful and relaxing views of the Han River and the Namsan nature preserve, along with luxurious, well-appointed suites. Unlike typical art fairs that exhibit artwork in white cubes, the AHAF installs its artwork in diversified groupings, such as pictures on beds and sculptures installed in bathtubs. This approach provides innovative, fun ways for patrons and collectors to view works of art.

Comparing to the general art fair exhibition in White Cube, this exhibition using the hotel rooms would offer a unique pleasure, with the paintings put on the bed, the sculptures installed in the bathtub, etc. In addition, this new concept of display would give the consumers who want to possess the art woks, an excellent simulation that will let them imagine the view of his or her own room with a displayed paintings.

According to the aim of ASIA ART NET, whose goal is to the unification of the Asian art world, the first AHAF was held in 2008 at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo. It will be held in Seoul this year and in Shanghai in 2010. Moreover, AHAF has prepared a variety of programs that will be held concurrently with the fair, including an auction room featuring Seoul Auction and K-Auction, a young artists’ exhibition, which creates opportunities for and fosters emerging artists from Asia, a special lecture series by Jemma Han, and a star exhibition by Naul and Minki Zio, who work in the art field as entertainers. These programs will give you an opportunity to experience the diversity of the fair.
Over 60 leading Asian Galleries participate in the AHAF, which is promoted by Arts Council Korea, Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Grand Hyatt Seoul, Samsung Techwin, Hyundai Department Store. The AHAF expects this art fair to be one of the largest exchanges in the Asian art world and revitalize the region’s art market.

Also, we aim to overcome the limit of the commercial art market which used to persue only the commercial profit, with donating certain part of the extrance fee profit to Good Neighbors, aiding the cultural education of the developing nations.

The best banquet facilities, with top-class galleries and customers, all located at Seoul’s best hotel, "Asia Top Gallery Hotel Art Fair" promises to chronicle the flow of modern art in Asia as well as provide the enjoyment that one would expect of such an extraordinary art fair.

Concept of the Event
"Asian top gallery in hotel room"
It is an art fair with themes to provide unconventional venues for viewers by displaying
art works in hotel rooms rather than traditional white cubes. The art works will come from premier galleries of Korea, Japan, China, and other Asian countries.

Background
Like in New York and Miami, a brand new art fairs have been held in the various parts of the U.S.A., using the hotel and motel rooms. Also in Europe as in Berlin, the new concept of hotel art fair has been introduced and been popular to the public. Especially, in Japan, the DoJima Art fair of Osaka celebrated its sixth art fair this year, and the Agnes Hotel Art Fair has been quite successful each year in Japan. Hotel-based art fairs have been received with popularity.

While these art fairs stress the local flair of each city, the Asia Top Gallery Hotel Art Fair 09 aims to promote exchange among the arts groups/circles in Asia by exhibiting artist’s displays from a number of Asian counties. To that end, the Asia Top Gallery Hotel Art Fair 09 shares the founding purpose of the Asia Art Net Committee, which aims to bring together the Asian countries as one community.
