More than 100 renowned printmakers from Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau and other places in Asia shall be invited to display their artwork at the SKY-2011 Asia Plate & Print Exhibition. The exhibition format will be different from other previous print exhibitions. For this exhibition, the major plates will be juxtaposed with their printed works for comparison. This is the first exhibit of its kind held in Asia region.
The main purpose of the SKY-2011 Asia Plate & Print Exhibition is to employ a joint plate / print exhibition format to shed light on the dissimilarities among prints from various Asian countries. Take block printing for example, even though the same basic material is used from country to country, there is still a major difference in the expression technique and the printing process. This exhibition showcases the expertise of each Asian print artist with the aim of enhancing the awareness and understanding of printmaking development among art enthusiasts in Taiwan.
SKY-2011 Asia Plate & Print Exhibition hopes to act as a starting point for contemporary print exchanges in Asia and expand global connections of print art. Also, through articles on Asia printmaking, a history of contemporary Asia printmaking can be established, which will serve well for academic research on printmaking by providing firsthand reference information for scholars doing research.
