“孌” is pronounced “luan”, meaning “beautiful”. The term ”孌童” (luan tong) originally meant “beautiful teen boys” but later also refers to young males who are dallied as females. It is commonly used to indicate sexual partners of homosexual men.

The Erotic Display of Primitive Human Desires

The allusions and stories of pederastic relationships were widely documented in ancient poems and articles. The earliest description of pederasty is believed to be written in ancient Greece, where the practice of pederasty was even broadly approved by the society.

In Japan, pederasty was popular mostly during the long period from Sengoku period (through Edo period) to Meiji period spanning almost five hundred years. Particularly in Edo period, pederasty was nicknamed “お稚児さん” and regarded by no means shameful.

In China, the earliest record of homosexuality could be found in the book “雜說” (Zashuo). The custom of pederasty started before Qin Dynasty and was especially in vogue during Southern and Northern Dynasties. The popularity of pederasty reached the peak in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.

The Aesthetics of Motion Pictures with a Long Take  V.S.  The Distorted Pleasure of Membrane

Wearing a “suffocating” mask representing beautiful youth, together with a “restraining” wet-look latex bodysuit, the self-indulgent actor performed in the dim space with high “precision” in his moves. The video was filmed with a high speed camera at 90 frames per second but played at “slower normal” speed. This technique not only captured the scenes which were too brief for human eyes to see, but also created a tranquil format of movements.

The uninterrupted shot without editing provides the reality of “shock” and the symbolic meaning of “eternity”. As a result, the structure of “time” is slowly loosened up. Densely and neatly constructed by “slow motion” and “silence”, the atmosphere at the screening is like a constant stare, which makes the audiences unable to breathe.

The precisely chosen material reflecting “distortion” induces unique membrane pleasure and aesthetic joy similar to fetish. Human’s primitive and concealed lust is hence thoroughly expressed.

The artist made cunning use of dialectical aesthetics by alternating “optical magic” and “prop tricks”, to create a dynamic effect of curious and thrilling style.
