With the exhibition, The One Minutes focuses on the perception and understanding of the moving image. One minutes are videos of exactly 60 seconds. They are a challenge for artists and filmmakers and a diverse and refreshing experience for viewers.
The exhibition celebrates The One Minutes 15 years anniversary and consists of three components. One component will consist of The One Minute series, 11 screens showing over 300 one minute videos. The One Minutes Portray is an interactive installation at the entrance of the exhibition where visitors can film an one minute portrait of themselves. The last component will show 15 years of history via diverse documentation such as photo’s, booklets and video’s. Additional to the exhibition at the Power Station of Art there will be The One Minutes Award Ceremony 2014 on June 10th at the Hotel Equatorial Shanghai and The One Minutes Forum, where video artist will talk about their work, on June 12th at the East China University.
The exhibition takes place on the top floor of the 41,200 sq. m building of Power Station of Art. It is the first state-owned museum on the mainland dedicated to contemporary art. The One Minutes is a global platform for moving images. Since 1999, The One Minutes has produced and distributed over 10.000 video works from makers of 120 different nationalities. This unique network has largely been built by former students of the Sandberg Instituut, a Fine Arts master in Amsterdam. The One Minutes started as an experiment and became a world movement.
