Celebrating its sixth anniversary, YOUNG ART TAIPEI has still insisted on the mission statement to bridge the gap with the international stage and to strengthen Taiwan's contemporary art market. After many years' effort, this year YOUNG ART TAIPEI is held in Regent Taipei for the first time -- the top five-star hotel in the central business district in Taipei. We also expand the exhibition space into two floors, receiving far more applications than the previous years. The final selection includes 76 top exhibitors from home and abroad, while the number of the first-time international exhibitors increased 30 percent.
YOUNG ART TAIPEI has indeed become one of the most major and the most international contemporary art fairs in Asia. This year, we invite young photographic artists to take participation in the event, organize the very first project "Portfolio Review" in Taiwan, and arrange the meeting of established photographers from Asia to Latin America. Showcasing the artworks and the concepts of the photographic artists, we present art professionals' well-organized narrative as a best resource for artistic creation. Meanwhile, we explore the possibility to introduce young artists to the world, establishing a best stage for young artists to participate in the global art exchange, offering more channels for art followers to speak out, and creating a healthy art market.
Growing from 61 to 76 galleries, the 6th edition of the fair confirming the fair’s position as one of the Asian’s leading contemporary art events. This year’s gallery list includes those from territories including France (1), China (4), Korea (1), Japan (20) and Singapore (1). For example, 798 MASTERPIECE from France will bring bronze sculptures from GUO Chengdong, and fantasy paintings from Daniel ARROYO, aim to promote artists from the West and Asia that carry each one of these two cultures. This year, there will be some new participants, including LOFTOOO Art Space (Shanghai), O2art (Beijing) and Art Front Gallery (Singapore). The young galleries Mur Nomade (Hong Kong) and MASATAKA CONTEMPORARY (Japan) are also the highlight of the year that cannot be missed. This April, art lovers have chances to see works from hundreds of contemporary young artists and enjoy the beauty of life.
The Six Edition Features a New Special Section
The special program of YOUNG ART TAIPEI this year is "FOTO EX- Explore Power Photo," curated by Gu Zheng, the curator of the first Asia Photo Biennale in China, Seto Masato, the judge of the most important photography award in Japan "The Kimura Ihei Award," and Kim Seung-Kon, the founder of Korea’s Dong-gang Photo Festival. The exhibition presents a more focused perspective to demonstrate the diversity of photographers from various regions, welcoming viewers with a fine selection of Asian contemporary photography. The highly expected annual contemporary art forum also focuses on contemporary photography, inviting major figures in the field from different countries to discuss the development of Asian contemporary video/photographic art, to describe the present picture of contemporary photography in Spain and Latin America, and to share the first-hand information with viewers. Additionally, Miyatsu Daisuke, the international collectors who is best known for his sensitivity to the art market, will reveal his valuable experiences and his unique artistic vision. Through a series of photography-related events which cover various aspect of the field, we sincerely hope to further strengthen the Asian art society’s attention to contemporary photographic art.
We are thrilled to announce the very first time to organize “Photo Portfolio Review” project in Taiwan. It provides a great opportunity for photographers and artists to receive advice from professionals who work in Photography Festival and the magazine industry and are dedicated to contemporary photography. This is a rare opportunity to have your work viewed by professors, critics, editors and international curators working in some of the top publications and spaces exhibiting photography in the Taiwan.
Exciting VIP Programs to Target Key Collectors
YAT is dedicated to cultivating contemporary art collectors. This year, we would like to extend dimension across many industry sectors. By cooperating with luxury boutiques such as Louis Vuitton Cultural Space and connecting with several domestic senior collector communities to host exclusive events, also we invited the“Japan’s most notable contemporary art collector” Miyatsu Daisuke’s be one of our tour guide. We look forward to serving all participators in a creative way, and would like to establish a prosperous contemporary art world in Asia.
Young Art Award - Predict Next Superstar
Different from those high price artworks, some of the artworks from emerging artists could be bought easily. This is a fabulous way of expressing one’s own taste. This year’s YOUNG ART AWARD will also help audiences with the selection. YAT invites every gallery to recommend an artist whose age is under 45 to attend the contest. Also invites judges from different backgrounds for the award contest, such as the Associate Professor of Taipei National University of Art, Mr. Chien-Hung HWANG ; Prominent Contemporary Art Collector, Mr. Daisuke MIYATSU (Japan); Chief Advisor, Global Outreach Office, Ministry of Culture, Ms. Yao-Hua SU, and Famous Music Producer and Art Collector, Mr. Chien YAO. The award winner will be a good sign for young collectors who wish to step into the field as the art collectors and connoisseurs.
