Date: 6 Mar - 13 Apr 2014

Co-presented by M+, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) and Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), ‘You.’ by leading Hong Kong artist Lee Kit is a major new solo exhibition which continues and expands on the themes of his exhibition ‘You (you).’, presented at the 55th Venice Biennale to represent Hong Kong in the world’s most important event for contemporary art.

You.’ is co-curated by Dr Lars Nittve, Executive Director of M+ and Mr Yung Ma, Assistant Curator of M+, and is also the sixth exhibition in the Mobile M+ series; a series of pre-opening ‘nomadic’ exhibitions curated by M+ that aim to engage the public ahead of the opening of the museum, scheduled for completion in late 2017.

This reconfigured exhibition juxtaposes a series of new commissions with installations from ‘You (you).’, fusing aspects of the personal, the social and the political within Lee’s continuous interest in the realm of the everyday.

For ‘You.’, Lee will employ the same precision that recalls a painter’s sensitivity towards composition, positioning various commonplace objects alongside moving images, sounds, lighting, found images and paintings to create an atmospheric and intimate aesthetics.

Located within the Cattle Depot Artist Village, a heritage venue that echoes the architectural characteristics of the Hong Kong Pavilion in Venice, ’You.’ will transform the site with a series of large-scale structures that presents new commissions alongside installations previously shown in ‘You (you).’. Developed in collaboration with designer Sara Wong, the interventions further signify Lee Kit’s ongoing contemplation of the spatial dynamics between the private and the public spheres.

Dr Lars Nittve said, “You (you).’ received critical acclaim internationally during the Venice Biennale, and Lee Kit was named one of the five emerging stars of the Biennale by The Wall Street Journal. I’m very glad that we have the chance to bring this special project back to Hong Kong and share Lee’s incredible vision with the public here.”

“We are also excited that Lee will introduce new directions of his practice to the audience this time, such as his take on scale and volume,” added Yung Ma.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of free public activities such as screenings, conversations and special guided tours, inviting the public to explore Lee Kit’s artistic vision with other artists, critics and curators.
