MARLÈNE MOCQUET
|
|
| Artist(s): MARLÈNE MOCQUET
Date: 20 Apr - 26 May 2012
Marlène Mocquet, at 33 years old, is a rising star in the art world.
Melding surrealism with the sublime, Mocquet masterfully executes her canvases in drips and impastos of mixed media, creating a personal, poetic and fantastic universe that piques our curiosity. Every disparate picture is populated with characters, animals and anthropomorphous objects, composing an extremely sophisticated image. Mocquet’s work has multiple references: Bosch, Klee, Ernst, Murakami, Betty Boop, Tim Burton; yet the end product is always undeniably Mocquet. She discovered painting as a form of self-therapy drawing on symbolism, surrealism, expressionism and action-painting, as well as on popular imagery from manga and cartoons. Her candy-jewelled palette belies her explosive paintings populated with anthropomorphic blobs, animals and monsters that we enthusiastically follow to discover a warped, ethereal and fantastic universe – one that is hers alone. Mocquet’s unlimited imagination and faux-naif style is unforgettable, from the start she has been received with great applause from the critics and the public.
FEAST Projects presents her first major exhibition in Asia.
