Japan Architects 1945-2010
Date: 1 Nov 2014 - 15 Mar 2015

In organizing Japan Architects 1945-2010, we welcomed Frédéric Migayrou, deputy director of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, as its general curator. Planning an exhibition to introduce the broad flow of Japanese architecture after the war, he considered projects by 75 Japanese architects who played major roles in postwar Japan. F. Migayrou then organized the exhibition into six sections covering the years from 1945, when Japan, reduced to rubble by the war, began its recovery, to 2010. Using color codes corresponding to the concepts in each section, he actively read and decoded postwar Japanese architecture from his own distinctive perspective. This exhibition includes exhibits from the Pompidou Centre, which has a large collection of materials on Japanese architecture, and about 300 rare original works, to trace the course of these architects’ thinking and present their achievements.
