Ages of Model-calligraphy School: Selected Calligraphy Works from the Museum Collection
Date: 19 Aug - 19 Sep 2011
Tie, also known as model-calligraphy, had been in fashion in the Chinese calligraphic world since the Northern Song dynasty (960 – 1127) which has then developed and reached its zenith during the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1911) dynasties. Nowadays, tie continues to play an important role in studying and practicing calligraphy.
By introducing the art of Chinese calligraphy through works of accomplished calligraphers over the past millennium, this exhibition aims to explore the continuous trend of “grand tradition” of classical Chinese calligraphy what one might call the “Tie School” or “Model-calligraphy School”. Works by leading calligraphers in this trend, including Zhao Mengfu, Wen Zhengming, Dong Qichang, Ni Yuanlu, Wang Duo, Wang Wenzhi, Liu Yong, Yu Youren and Tai Jingnong, will be featured. During the exhibition period, a number of demonstrations and special educational programmes will be held.
