Don Gallery on Huai Hai Lu presents its brand new photography exhibition “Fables” on 7 March, as the opening of the Shanghai Ireland Week 2009 which will take place from 7 March to 14 March.

“Fables” presents four contemporary artists’ photography works from Ireland and China. They are Dan Murphy, Maleonn, Sandra Minchin and Mick Ryan.

Maleonn is one of the top art photographers working in China at the moment. It is his first show in Ireland. ‘Fables’ features new works that have never been exhibited before. Mick Ryan is from Dublin but lives and works in Shanghai. He has just been featured as one of the photographers of the year in the magazine ‘Black and White Photography.’ Sandra Minchin is a breakthrough artist from Cork whose installations, performances and photography represent a radical departure in new media. Dan Murphy is an artist / photographer based in Tralee. He is also the curator of Fables.’

‘Fables’ travels to Shanghai where it will be shown as part of ‘Ireland Week,’ a festival that celebrates Irish culture that takes place from 7-29 March, 2009. The festival is organized by John Lynam, representative of the Office of the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai. This exhibition is supported by Culture Ireland, the Irish state agency that promotes the best of Irish culture internationally and assists in the development of Ireland’s international cultural relations.

’Fables’ will also be shown in the Cork Institute of Technology as part of Art Fest 2009 (19 - 27 March 2009) in association with Cork City Council’s twinning project with the city of Shanghai.

Fables’ opens in the Gallery Siamsa Tíre, Tralee on 17 January, 2009. It will be exhibited at Don Gallery in Shanghai between 7 and 29 March 2009, and then it continues its tour from 19 to 27 March 2009 in Cork to participate in the Irish Art Festival.
