The Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia) – currently presided over by Paolo Baratta – has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Ever since its foundation, it has been at the forefront in the research and promotion of new artistic trends. In Venice, it organizes international events in the field of the contemporary arts that are amongst the most important of their kind in the world.
ARTSPACE is pleased to announce Khaled Zaki’s participation in the 55th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale.
Born in the city of Suez in 1964, Zaki holds a Master degree in restoration from the faculty of archeology, Cairo university. A member of the fine artists syndicate, Zaki works as a sculptor between Cairo and Italy. Zaki studied sculpting under the supervision of professors Zakaria Al Khonani and Aida Abdel Karim at Al Khonany Museum of Art from 1983 to 1986.
With stone and bronze being his mediums of choice, Zaki won the First Prize in a competition at the city of Strettoia in Italy in 1989, the First prize in the national competition for the design and execution of monumental sculpture for Galaa Square in 2000. Since then, Zaki has taken part in many exhibitions and symposiums in Egypt and abroad.
