Le Vuong instills in his realistic still life a sense of beauty. These ordinary, everyday objects are lovingly assembled and his paintings give the impression that he has touched them, learnt by heart the feel of the rough terracotta, the smoothness of the porcelain, the softness of the cloth. He is a master of light and dark – the light drifting across his paintings like music, from sombre quiet space to the brightly lit high notes of a bowl or a glass. These things serve not only as his models but become, over time, ‘dear friends, closer and closer’.
