Chinese Contemporary Beijing is located in Factory 798, Beijing's most active art enclave. Once a series of deserted factory spaces designed and built in cooperation with the East Germans in the Bauhaus style, Factory 798 has become the center of China's booming contemporary art scene.

Chinese Contemporary's Beijing gallery is located in the heart of Factory 798 in a 300 square-metre space. The gallery is dedicated to showing the work of the Chinese avant garde post-1989. It has an exhibition programme which shows a complete spectrum of media from paintings to photos, performances, ink on paper and videos. The gallery specialises in artists living and working in mainland China because it believes these artists are closely in tune with the considerable changes their country is undergoing, which is reflected in their art. It is a world historical situation where a communist government reigns over a vibrant market economy, providing rich ground for artistic creation.

Chinese Contemporary has participated in leading art fairs such as FIAC, Art Cologne, Scope London and Miami, and also in other fairs such as ARCO. The gallery produces an extensive range of catalogues to accompany its solo and group exhibitions and the gallery has acquired a comprehensive collection of essays, catalogues and books. Chinese Contemporary works extensively with museums and galleries from around the world, consulting with curators and lending works for exhibitions.
