Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces was founded in 1983 as a non profit contemporary art complex of gallery spaces and studio facilities. The organisation provides professional support to artists in the early stages of their careers through exhibition, studio and associated cultural exchange and public programs which address the relationship between contemporary art practices and current critical debate.

Vision: A society which values creativity, risk and experimentation in the visual arts.

Mission: To professionally support contemporary artists in establishing and developing their work.

Programs and Facilities: Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces' exhibition program operates through the organisation's three gallery spaces. Exhibitions are developed internally and through proposals from artists, curators and groups, and features work by emerging Australian and international artists that demonstrate excellence, innovation and experimentation in contemporary art practice.

Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces houses sixteen low-cost, non-residential studios for local artists, and a residential studio for visiting international and interstate artists.

The organisation initiates cultural exchange and professional development projects that contribute to the contemporary culture of artists, writers and curators in Australia and internationally. Catalogues are produced to accompany exhibitions in order to develop public understanding of contemporary visual arts theory and practice. Education and Public Programs provide opportunities for students and members of the public to engage with a range of exhibition and studio programs in order to make contemporary art accessible and engaging.
