The participating MWS artists are set to showcase their latest works ranging from portraiture, scenic landscapes and images depicting everyday life, market scenes and fishing villages, flora and fauna as well as some stylized abstract works and more experimental use of the medium.

Watercolours as a medium are reminiscent of a bygone era, they express a romantic and nostalgic imagery of people and places. Its traditions in Malaysia dates back to pre-independence and even goes back as early as the nineteenth century. The art of watercolour bears a significant history in Malaysian artistic practices.

Works by established and up-coming artists will hang next to each other, showing the differences in styles, of colour palettes and textures and interpretations of their favoured subjects matter, all adding to the richness of this talented group. The exhibition will also document works from their recent painting trips around Malaysia.

In creating greater awareness and a love for the medium, the society has actively and passionately been promoting an appreciation of this medium through means of publications, field trips, painting excursions and exhibitions. This has rekindled interest in the public, and with younger members joining in the MWS giving new idioms and expression to traditions of watercolours, the future of the Malaysian Watercolour Society promises to be long-lasting and exciting.
