We often think of Ukiyo-e(picture of floating world) when we are talking about printmaking of wood cut. "Floating world" is a term derived from Buddhism, refers to the wide range of phenomena, can also be interpreted as the daily life of social phenomena. Though Jiang Miao’s wood cut works do not have bright colors like Ukiyo-e, the image are the association of people and things she saw in her daily life. Early Ukiyo-e, usually were beauty-centric genres painting and landscape, but Jiang Miao devoted herself in the "beauty" in her heart– the creation of "Girl Series". From the numerous works in "girl series”, there was girl meditating in silent, girl having fiery and forthright character blazing with anger, or naked girl, also girl coquetting to show their beauty; In addition, there are many surreal "girl” as well. It is worth mentioning the background of her works, most are composited with lines, on one hand to create a sense of space, on the other hand greatly highlighted the main characters - the girls’ location. The black and white monochromatic works, the creation of a sense of space and the composition of the main characters’ position becomes the personal symbols of Jiang Miao’s works.
