VAFA – Video Art For All ended their International Open Call on September 30 were received 180 submissions from 117 artists from the 4 corners of the world. The creative force behind video art is very diverse and the submissions received for VAFA provided much debate between the members of the jury.

The jury composed by 2 video artists from Macau (Bianca Lei, José Drummond), and 2 video artists from Hong Kong (Hung Keung, João Vasco Paiva) had no fixed criteria concerning work theme or form as long as it could be understood as contemporary art.

A difficult decision was made to agree on 10 artists for VAFA exhibition. 60 other works will be shown during the festival with several screenings. A special screening will also be done reuniting 9 artists from Macau and 7 from Hong Kong with 20 works. The 60 video will be shown once every day at 6:30pm which will last for an hour.

The first prize is attributed by The Orient Foundation and goes to Stefan Riebel from Germany. Tomoyuki Yago from Japan and Anders Weberg from Sweden were on the last three to win the competition but the prize ended up to be awarded to Stefan Riebel for his conceptual animations. The artist will be present at the Exhibition opening and award ceremony to receive the price of USD 1,000 and will do a small sharing about his work.

The artists chosen for the exhibition include some well-known video artists like Robert Cahen, pioneer of French Video Art and Ane Lan, that already represented Norway at the Venice Biennale with emerging talents like Tomoyuki Yago and our local female artist Peng Yun. For details on the exhibition artists and schedule of the projections please check the program of the festival.
