Own our City, Own our Art! - AFA Autumn Salon
| by AFA Macau Location: Orient Foundation, Praca Luis de Camoes, 13 Macau
Date: 7 Oct - 24 Oct 2010
The term "Salon" first appeared in France which refers to a gathering for exchanging ideas. It was a social occasion in the seventeenth-century France where artists, poets, musicians, painters, critics, philosophers and politicians discussed literature, art, politics, philosophy, economy and science, and expressed their opinions through discussion and probing knowledge. Salons gradually became an occasion to agitate, accumulate and innovate culture and knowledge. This is the first opportunity for AFA to cooperate with Orient Foundation to organize "Autumn Salon" in this golden season. On one hand, we would like to create a platform where local artists can have more exchange of ideas so as to ascend to a higher level. On the other hand, we hope to encourage that artworks in this Salon not only can be appreciated, they can also be owned. There are more than one hundred artworks by thirty local artists showcased in this salon, including paintings, prints, sculpture, photography, video and installation, ranging from MOP800 to MOP380,000. The Salon aims both at visitors who have never bought original art before, as well as experienced buyers looking to expand their contemporary art collection. We hope through this opportunity art lovers can bring home with them their favorite works. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Orient Foundation for their great effort and support in organizing this event and to all the artists for their participation. We would also like to thank our sponsors and media partners. Without their support and enthusiasm towards art, even the best works can hardly be discovered or recognized, much less to be known and appreciated. Hope you enjoy this autumn feast of art as much as we do!
