The Disappearing Neighbouring Villages - Rediscovery of Hengqin Island Photographic Exhibition
by Ox Warehouse Location: Art Gallery G/F University of Macau Library
Date: 1 Dec - 30 Dec 2011
The Disappearing Neighbouring Villages – Rediscovery of Hengqin Island Photographic Exhibition II is now showing at the Library Gallery of the University of Macau (UM), after its successful opening at Ox Warehouse. This time the exhibition has a special meaning as it offers UM teachers and students a unique opportunity to get to know Hengqin island: apart from the building of the future UM campus, there are many untold stories happening on the island. With the disappearance of villages and the hectic construction boom presented right before our eyes, Hengqin’s current status and future development are indeed closely related to Macao people. A good number of places or scenes showcased in this exhibition have already disappeared or are at risk of disappearing. Through these images we hope to trigger audience’s reflection on the costs of rural and urban developments. Admittedly, this exhibition is organized with this very aim at heart.
