Dr. Cheah Thien Soong is an outstanding and renowned artist of ink-painting based in Malaysia. His relationship with Singapore dates back half a century ago when he graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1962. An exceptional talented artist with an inquisitive mind, he was conferred Doctorate Degree in Philosophy of Fine Arts by the Inter American University in 2002. With the help of Pin Wei Zhai Gallery in Malaysia and Mr. Chan Kuan Nam, founder of the private gallery, Heng Artland has been able to approach Dr. Cheah to hold a solo art exhibition for our Singapore viewers. Dr Cheah's art combined Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism, epitomizing deep respect for harmony and perfect balance of the artistic tradition. His works capture the inner spirit of both the manifest physical world as well as the unmanifest space. Fusing western and eastern arts as well as figurative and the abstract, he has blazed a new and unique blend of universal art that drenches the viewers with beauty, harmony and bliss. Now, long past the level of competence in Chinese ink-painting, he has geared himself towards exploring the fresh possibilities in the realm of art in order to expand its boundary, thus making a significant contribution for arts in both Malaysia and this region.
