Location: Red Sea Gallery
Artist(s): Val
Date: 31 Mar - 30 Apr 2012

Val was born in France in 1967, but from early childhood lived abroad with her family in Morocco, Cameroon, England and Venezuela.  Returning to Paris in 1985 to study at university, she spent much of her leisure exploring museums and exhibitions.

Upon completing her studies, after only four years in her homeland, Val was compelled by her urge for discovery to seek out distant lands.  Following the pattern of her childhood due to her family’s life abroad, Val pursued her taste for international horizons in Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil before finally settling in Spain.

Val found her initial and formal inspiration as an artist while on her honeymoon, trekking in Thailand and Vietnam.  Here, she discovered sculptural arts and architecture.

In 1994, Val again returned home to France.  Spending time with an artist-friend, Yanne Kintgen, whom introduced her to the art of sculpting in 2001, Val came to know sculpting as true expression revealed in form.  This was, as she says, “love at first touch with sculpting.”

Val initially works using many media: clay, wax, plaster, choosing to solidify her final artistic designs in bronze, “a bronze creation is a precision work that requires know-how and many materials.”

Val works the natural bronze into shape and finishes each piece in bronze patina, which she considers “a key element in the sculpture’s character, it acts as an enlightenment of the creation.”

Quickly recognized as a collectable artist, Val showed her works in France at her first exhibition in 2003.  Exhibitions and permanent showcases in Thailand and Hong Kong followed between 2004-2006.  Val’s works now cross the globe: displayed in Australia, China, Germany, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Turkey, the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
