Established in 2002, Red Sea Gallery is owned by British couple, Chris and Charlotte Churcher. Having lived in Singapore for almost a decade, they decided the time was right to realise their dreams. The couple opened what has become one of Singapore’s most vibrant art centres.

Red Sea Gallery is housed in an old army barracks in Dempsey Road. The building used to be part of a complex serving the British Armed Forces in Singapore. Later, it was used by the Central Manpower Base for a variety of purposes, including administration for National Service; many visitors say they can remember registering for service here. We prefer the area in its current guise, as a hub for eating, drinking, relaxing, shopping, and of course, culture. As an integral part of the recent development of Dempsey Hill, Red Sea is proud to participate in the historical fabric of Singapore, maintaining the texture of previous eras, whilst the interior remains relevant, contemporary and exciting.

The gallery exhibits a wide selection of artwork: original paintings, ceramic and bronze sculptures, glass art, and original prints by both emerging and established artists from around the world. Art from Asia-Pacific: Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Singapore, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, is exhibited alongside artwork from Europe.

The gallery’s philosophy seeks to introduce visitors to artwork, along with the knowledge of when, where and how it was produced, enriching the viewer’s enjoyment of each piece. Close interaction between the gallery owners and the artists enables greater understanding for each work, and provides customers with personal insight about their chosen artwork. The artwork shown in the gallery represents the best of the artists with whom Red Sea represents.

Red Sea is open daily, and all are welcome to enjoy the superb display of colour and creativity - whether it is to simply view or select artwork for your home or office or to enjoy the space, there is something at Red Sea Gallery for everyone.
