Landscape Memories
by Espace Louis Vuitton Singapore
Location: Louis Vuitton Island Maison, Marina Bay Sands
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 25 Apr - 30 Sep 2013

Espace Louis Vuitton Singapore presents a group exhibition: Landscapes Memories, inaugurating it's first major collaboration with renowned Singaporean artists: Donna Ong, Genevieve Chua, Jane Lee and Ng Joon Kiat

Curated by Singaporean Khim Ong, the main focus of the exhibition will be based on the exploration of landscapes, featuring works which are not served as a projection to the natural world, nor as a presentation of the prospect or refuge of the nature, but as a repository of our memories of the world surrounding us.

Donna Ong's installation "Landscape Portraits (In a Beautiful Place Nearby)", transforms daily objects, such as hardware, pins and needles into breathtaking perspectives of cities, gardens and the underwater world.

Genevieve Chua explores the interior landscapes that arise from our knowledge of our environement and our often-ambiguous relationship to it. The series "She Was Here Befote" portrays imagies of a forest at the base of a volcano.

In contrast, Jane Lee offers a different engagement with the landscape, paintings that are highly tactile and sensuous and, while not directly referencing the landscape, provide a sensorial experience that is akin to one's experience of a space.

Having spend two years studying old maps of Singapore, Ng Joon Kiat's recent paintings are an exploration of an imagined geography. The surface of his paintings suggests a terrain that was once only demarcated by nature's processes but now also bears traces of man-made borders.
