A Journey Through Colors
by Sculpture Square
Location: Upper Gallery, Sculpture Square
Artist(s): Maheswari ARUN
Date: 11 Feb - 12 Feb 2012

Maheshwari Arun seeks to capture the journey that is life through a series of expressions depicting the vantage points of human experiences steeped in emotions and manifested by an eclectic combination of objects and actions.

The artworks presented here focus on the evolution of actions that originate from emotions, fleeting and intense, conscious and the subconscious. The essence of every day gestures and objects has been used to bring out raw and transient nature of human emotions. Much depends on the perception of an individual as each part of the painting can be broken down to represent the harmonic relationship between emotions and actions, ranging from explosive joy through a sense of contentment to sublime peace. The sentiment that each viewer associates with the subject is probably the best description of the work.

Bright shades of colours intrinsically convey movement, anticipation, excitement and cheerful aspects of life. Each colour is used as a reflection of a personal mood to convey a sentiment that is positive and hopeful against the challenging surroundings we face today.

About the Artist

A lawyer by profession, Maheswari Arun believes that art has no boundaries. Using the abundance of subjects she comes across in her personal and professional life as sources of inspiration, this self taught artist uses colours as a medium to translate the sentiments surrounding and within her into an outer reality. Deeply influenced by her Indian heritage and her life in Singapore for the past decade, her paintings employ bright, vibrant colours and bold brush strokes to exemplify joy and free spiritedness. Having honed her skills at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, she continues to explore new techniques and textures to characterise her paintings.
