Lee Ufan was born in Gyeongnam in 1936, he went Japan while in college of fine arts of Seoul National University in 1956 and graduated from Japan college majoring in philosophy. He was a professor of Dama college of fine arts. He had a number of solo and special exhibition including in Japan as follows: Gallery M(West Germany), Gallery Spectrum(Belgium), Gallery Eric Fabre(Paris), Duseldorf City Museum of Fine Arts(West Germany), Louisiana Museum of Fine Arts(Denmark), Male Museum of Fine Arts(West Germany), Stagio•Male(Milano). During years around 1971, he has announced a number of thesis including a criticism book Looking for meeting (Dahata bookstore published). He has participated international exhibition such as '71 Paris Biennale(Paris), '77 Cassel Documenta(West Germany), and special exhibitions like '77 Today's Print 100(New York Museum of Contemporary Art), '78 Seven Artists' Exhibition, which Beuys and Serra attended(Frankfurt), '80 Sculpture of 20th Century(Swiss, Basel), '82 Today's Masters(Nicolenberg City Museum of Fine Arts), '83 ARS '83 Exhibition(Helsinki, Finland).
