I M ART is pleased to announce a group exhibition of four artists, Seo Sangik, Kim Soyeon, Lim Sodam and GuNa, from June 11th to July 14th, 2010. Interests in the third being, space, or a point of view that reflect current values and meanings in the generation; makes into the general sympathy through a very personal channel of each artist.
Based on certain experiences and expected ways of social behaviors effect on the culture of one generation in short term, and further, on the ultimate values of history. This could be standards for descendent to look back upon the general ways of thoughts of the past or be a record for the future, which is also layered in our daily life today. However, within this everyday life each person sometimes makes an imaginary being or space through which we can experience humor or realization on the current social criteria that are the seasoned or mistakes of one generation that could be seen after the generations. This theme is planed to shown through four artists with this exhibition.
Seo Sangik uses photograph-based images when combining these two worlds into paintings. It is to use the 'proof of existence' of photographs, which raises tensions between imagination and actual scenes. He believes his daily life can be communicated and empathized with other members of our society who breathe in the same time and space. To express the world and its context around me while sharing it with others through his painting is what he hopes for. Kim Soyeon takes daily news and combination of those images with artist’s own props that astonished the global through internet and television as a representative material to reflect our indifferences ironically. Hereby she tries to express the fundamental sources of those images and the state of the present.
Lim Sodam sees the word; sociality is a shortcut to the cultural priority as we get rid of animality within ourselves which seems to be failure. Though it is not artists try to be back to the primitive society, but to present the current conditions and values of human and society with borrowed images of animal and humane beings. GuNa seems to express familiar images of human or landscape like color palette with simplified outlines. However, ironically, this makes us to realize the current social prejudice that systemizes our ways of thinking with certain images in result. Forms in works exist as it is, not as objects within socially disciplined outlines.
Composed of previous and new works of 2010, we would like audience to experience the records and systematic values layered in our daily life through each artist’s imagine and unconscious escape connected to futuristic values.
