Did Not Mean It
by I M Art
Location: I M Art
Artist(s): LEE Budullee, LIM Su Jin
Date: 4 Mar - 10 Apr 2010

I M ART is pleased to present works of two artists, Lee Budullee and Lim Sujin, under the title ‘Did not mean it’ which will be held from March 4th to April 10th.

Communication has been over step the boundary of individual and inspired community for long time. We experience very often that communications from a conversation sometimes are delivered differently depends on the listener because of their own subjective condition and judgment. I M ART wants to introduce the two artists who show visually the transformation of communication and the acceptance or embarrassment. In this respect, the photographs of Lee budulle and installations of Lim Sujin pay attention to oneself which is unconsciousness yet cannot be expressed outwardly and socially. The artists reveal their thoughts about unsociable personality to a community abstractly and suggestively which are deep desires to express the pressures from other people, social rules and conventions.

Lim. Su Jin’s installation works are about anxiety and fear when she faces the limitation of self expression because of other people. Her works, ‘Soap Man’ which is about her wish to be worn down and be gone just like a soap and ‘Scream’ which is an appearance of a locked human figure in a glass bead embodies concretely about her unsociable tendency and repeats reflecting herself. Hereby, she tells her longing for safe and comfort from the relationships that both closeness and attacking are existed. The line of her emotion extends to interests about the real life, when she meets with other people, has a relationship and be a member of society; it keeps confusing her between demonstration and its barrier. Her works express her closed personality visually.

Lee. budullee‘s photograph reveals the self identity in the world which are run in one’s head but, are also in an excluded place, person, and the space. To find one’s self in the space where I’m not existed is never easy. In ‘Light daily life’ series, she finds herself from others through learning the process of reproduction the pictorials that she takes with camera. She assimilates in the system through a shooting of her close people and figures she meets in her daily life. She has not believed one’s growth in the systematized society yet, she has established a relation through photography keeping the tense from outer world. The one role of the photography remains as an evidence. She builds invisibly the evidence one by one which makes her possible to realize her self through the photos. If she had been looking for herself in the blocked space, now she is attempting an escape from the space. She will introduce her new works and become aware of one self through a reminding who repeats or steps aside the repetition and where the one is at.

I M ART makes an attempt to estimate the dilemma from unintended turn and the difficulty of definite communication. I M ART also attempts the mysterious tension between the rapid process of transformation that is almost self suffering and the presenter who wants to deliver it directly while an individual variation is existed.
