Gallery Sun Contemporary invites you to San-Keum Koh's Solo Exhibition ‘Homage to You’. Instead of using traditional medium of canvas and paint, Koh uses white or black wooden panels onto which she attaches pearl beads or steel balls. Selecting texts from a novel, song or newspaper, she replaces the words with pearl bead or a steel ball. A word is transposed into a pearl bead or steel ball, a space with a space and a new type of text is created.
Koh’s works are representation of life’s tragedy, sorrow that language is unable to fully express. The labor intensive work process is like a ritual to pay homage to life. In this solo show are exhibited her new works that the artist has conceived through an intensified visual experimentation with three dimensional cube forms using the signature 4mm pearl beads. Once again, the desired approach to appreciate the artist’s new works will be with the ‘heart’ than ‘head’ and more with meditation than analysis.
