Frantic Gallery opens this year exhibition season with its second time participation in Art Stage Singapore. We are glad to come back to the central for The South-East Asia art fair and bring into this vibrant megalopolis photo works dedicated to two other Asian city-giants. At the 2013 edition of Art Stage Frantic Gallery presents “Shanghai and Tokyo Layers” by Makoto Sasaki.
While living in Yokohama and working in the field of digital photography, Sasaki dedicates his artistic attention to the image of the city. This time we are happy to exhibit the photographic works from two latest series titled “Tokyo Layers” and “Shanghai Layers”. In this projects Sasaki is using a technique of capturing subject with the camera in movement and exposure time of 20-30 seconds, while closing the shutter for several times during each shot. The photo itself is taken from the skyscraper observation elevators of above mentioned Megalopolises. Thus the extension of light in “Layers” comes together with its interruption, the line absorbs the rhythm and photography comes a bit closer to the futuristic abstract painting drawn by light or the visualized melodic poetry of the City.
