Presenting(s)
by Lin & Lin Gallery
Location: Lin & Lin Gallery
Artist(s): HUANG Chia-Ning
Date: 10 Jan - 8 Feb 2015

Lin & Lin Gallery is thrilled to present Huang Chia-Ning’s solo exhibition “Presenting(s)” which comprises the latest artworks in the wake of her first solo exhibition held in 2012 at Lin & Lin Gallery. This time, continuing the direct depiction of daily life, she strikes a subtle balance between sense and sensibility.

At first, I simply tried to accurately express the message on the photo. And then I realized that it is more than painting an ordinary photo. - Huang Chia-Ning

Beyond the context of realistic painting, Huang’s technique is the way of narrative.

In addition to the measurable seconds and minutes, the so-called time is a situated cognition formed by the transition of medium: a quote from a novel, a talk show video clip widely circulated on the social network, a poem, a break on a stone, or a fleeting moment of a wink. Those selected moments of life contradict the idea that time is continuing, progressing. On the contrary, Huang Chia-Ning’s work reflects that time can be a slice of life which serves as a supplement to life.

A painting is more than a representation through the camera, happenstance, manipulation, or certain of arranged freeze-frame. In Huang’s paintings, she depicts fragments of life. Specifically she depicts the perceptions and messages within the fragments of life. Through the selected details, switching focal distance and grotesque image enlargement, her perception enriches the fleeting experience, further making it an existence beyond time.

Born in 1979 in Taipei, Huang Chia-Ning currently lives and works in Taichung. In 2006 she won the Kaohsiung Awards, and in 2007 an Honorable Mention at the Taipei Arts Awards and her work is in collections of Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Huang’s unique and unconventional realistic painting style garners favorable attention among museums, foundations and collectors. She is labeled as the most anticipated young artists. The recent selected exhibitions include “Telling Details: Photorealism in Taiwan” (Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2014); “Chongqing Youth Art Biennial” (2011); “Reshaping History: China Art from 2000 to 2009” (Beijing, 2010); “Weak Painting” (Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, 2009); and solo exhibition “every frame” (Hong-Gah Museum, 2009).
