Fifteen Chinese people of different ages and professions answer questions about their identity, dreams, hopes and expectations. These 'talking heads' neither have any artistic effects nor foregone conclusions; at the same time, the film refuses in any way to manipulate people's statements. In this way, it brings out personal and existential experiences of the modern Chinese society.
The frankness and honesty I experienced while shooting this film was overwhelming. I didn't expect people to share their thoughts and hopes with me in an instant. Another surprise was that Chinese people - unlike Europeans - seem to have a clear idea of who they are and what they want: Goals you can put hands on.
