Compressed Project
by Vanguard Gallery
Location: Vanguard Gallery
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 16 Feb - 22 Mar 2015

Vanguard gallery’s first exhibition in 2015 will be participated by three newly graduated artists Tang Chao, Zhu Changquan, Film Group (Cao Zilin, Tang Chao) whom are from China Academy of Art, Studio of Experimental Image. The exhibition will display their video works. Tang Chao’s work involves in video, photography, theater play, performance art and installations. Compare to images, he’s more interested in the instant relationship between photographer and the people being filmed. He tries to capture that moment. Zhu Changquan made a lot of attempts in theatre play and animation by reflect oneself and daily life to intervene art activities. Narrate all the factor is his understanding toward image creation.  He tries to let images and daily product generate new relationships. Cao Zilin tries to let image get involved in daily life to root and explore. Through images to create a real and poetic routine. Film Group is formed by Cao Zilin and Tang Chao, this is a “temporary” “amateur” “anonymous” group. Their practices are “What’s reality is like?  What kind of reality do we actively choose to film?"

Boris Groys’ saying “Everyone is an artist” is rather anti-utopia. In this art world, artists must keep making art works and compete for chances to exhibit. To think, we have no intention to criticize art world or culture industry. The important thing is under tight financing and limited exhibiting space plus chaotic context and the compressed condition to finish work, how to go through the narrow door of time and change creation into a daily language is the problem that newly graduate artists need to face above all.
