In December 2010, two solo exhibitions took place at 99 Art Center featured the latest works of two newly emerged Chinese ink painting artists, Liu Yongtao and Li Zhouwei. While Liu's paintings use architecture as the main subject matter, Li dedicate his works to the depiction of the crowd. The exhibition explored important issues of contemporary Chinese ink paintings, such as how the medium can be used to transgress the grand and abstract philosophy of ink painting, how form can be given a unique personal perspective, as well as how real social sites can be incorporated as a rich resource of inspiration for artistic creation.
